Do you know that it is already possible to edit our own genes in order to avoid developing certain diseases caused by “writing errors” in our genetic code, in our ‘book of life’?

Catarina Raposo, researcher of CBMR – Centre for Biomedical Research, give us a look at CRISPR method and its future implications, in a piece of science communication about the past, present and future of biomedicine and genome editing.

“I like to compare our DNA to an instruction book that allows us to form what we are. The DNA is divided into tiny parts, which we call genes, and which constitute the chapters of this book. These genes are responsible for each of our characteristics, such as the tendency we have to develop certain diseases. The exchange of only one letter in this writing can lead to the appearance of very serious diseases “
